PHANTASMAT VIDEO GAME REVIEW

A lot of adventure PC games take place in hotels, just like those run down scary ones in the horror movies. The Phantasmat video game is no different, the plot of the whole will start to unravel during your stay at the Drowining Dead Hotel, but seriously with that name of the hotel, it would definitely not attract customers to check in there.

The game starts with you being the hero and you are driving your towards to a destination no one knows where. After you checked your map, strange images have blocked the car’s windshield making the car reach down a cliff. The strange thing is that you survive the whole ordeal. But after seeing yourself in a very strange place with a lot of strange people, you start to wonder if your survival is such a lucky break. The Phantasmat video game is a hidden object adventure game, this means that you spend most of your playing time searching for some stuff and chancing upon key items that can be used to interact with the hindrances you will encounter along the way. But don’t let the hidden object game annoy you because if you get bored playing the game, you have a choice to skip the item finding mode and switch the game play to match 3.

The game can either be a hidden object or a match 3, and probably the best thing about it is that you have the freedom to choose the genre. In Match 3, your goal is to make all eye icons reach the bottom of the board. After the eye icons reach the bottom of the board, one item will be automatically found from the hidden object list. But personally, I do like the hidden object game because you get a feel of the actual scene but switching to match 3 makes it easier to locate automatically the hard to find objects in the list.

The game and story progress is pretty straight forward as you will just have to follow the task list until you advance with the storyline. You can explore non related areas to your current task most of the time, but even if you have explored the area, you would not be able to find anything significant until the situation actually needs it. This triggers backtracking on the previous areas which I think is stupid but not that annoying because you would be engage with the story and would less likely realize that you have been running around the place. The graphics and sound of Phantasmat is reall nice, and up until now the game still makes my body shiver even though I know that it is just a cartoon. The game looks like a cartoon but with the realistic camera effects and the fantastic voice acting and video game music, the game developers really made this game very eerie as they wanted it to be. The plot is really amazing and it is definitely a fun linear adventure game. Playing this game is like reading a thriller storybook for hour and hours.
